Wednesday. A day in Sitka was quite nice, hiking from The Prospector sculpture to a Totem Park - to meeting artist Tommy Joseph , one of the top Tlingit carvers in Alaska. Oh yeah and at the top of Baranof Castle Hill there was a distinguished resident holding high court in the treetop. May 28, 2024 Tuesday Glacier Bay and Icy Strait Point…throw in a whale painting session and tea…. At 9:45 am our cruise liner was in Glacier Bay and arrived at Margerie Glacier. All I can say is “Wow” … Margerie is on the Alaska side and is a glacier where calving is frequent. Perhaps you aren’t familiar with calving (I wasn’t) in this instance it means ice chunks breaking from the huge glacier, and she did not disappoint… Margerie came unglued several times. As we traveled to Icy Strait Point from Margerie, we were delighted to see a few whales along our journey. During our sailing time, I strolled down to the main dining room for a splendid high tea, after an afternoon of painting. On the road at 8:20 today with a quick stop at the gas pumps to drop a quick $117. Gas here is $4.29 per gallon, and I'm sure the price will continue to increase. Being that these RV's get around 9 miles to a gallon the fuel costs are quite high. I will have a total expenditure at the end of the trip. We all loved the Tok RV Village as it was clean, had trees, and the spots were not on top of each other. It was a welcome treat after our last stop. We saw a couple of Great Alaskan Holiday rigs there also enjoying the stop. I met a couple that had driven all the way from Florida. Today was our last day of cruising before docking at Vancouver. Unfortunately, there were to be no ports of call today, just cruising. Manoli felt sick, and thought maybe it was food poisoning, so I went down to the medical facility onboard to see what they thought. I told them her symptoms and that she thought it was food poisoning. They told me they could send a doctor up to our room, but that there would be a charge. After seeing the prices for stuff onboard, I told them I'd talk with my wife. I went back up and told my wife what they said, and she was in agreement with me.
