Today we woke up early and watched the ship come into Liverpool. Our first excursion was the Beatles Experience. We got on the bus and the guide gave us a detail tour of the downtown area and everything we passed on the way to the Beatles locations. Our guide talked about Penny Lane. IT turns out Penny Lane is a long street but “Penny Lane” in the song is more around the bus terminal and not the street. We did get to see the road signs for Penny Lane and saw the painted sign (people kept stealing the regular signs so they painted the street sign on the wall) The one that is still visible, had Paul McCartney’s signature. We then learned about Strawberry Fields, which was a girl’s orphanage, that was near the house where John Lennon lived and how he used to trespass in and get in trouble. We stopped by where Strawberry Fields orphanage existed, and it now contains a work training center but also a Beatles Strawberry Fields Museum. We saw where Ringo grew up, Paul McCartney’s house and where John Lennon grew up. We saw where the Caravan Club is located. We learned that the band was originally the Quarrymen, …… It was a very interesting tour.

After the tour we got back to the ship and ate a quick lunch and realized that our afternoon included tour basically was a repeat of what our guide explained to us on our morning tour. Since it was going to push us with time and when we learned that some of the things we really wanted to see were right the by the ship, we cancelled the included tour and did our own. We walked along the waterfront and saw the Beatles statue and got pictures along with pictures along the wharf.

In the evening we went to listen to the tenor concert and we both made it through the whole concert without having to leave because of coughing.
