It’s really a shame that this blog site is having so many issues. Had to log in with different browser and still uploading many photos black. Going to work on an alternative option because photos are my jam.
Today I headed over to the Human Library. The bus I took randomly stopped with no explanation and a bunch of confused humans retreated from the bus bi decided to walk the remainder of the way there so I could see sights and not have to worry about transport. Apparently there was a marathon this morning , which made sense one I learned that.
The Human Library is a brilliant concept where you can check out books who are people and ‘reading’ them is a conversation in any direction you take it on a topic of choice presented on a chalkboard. I don’t think the photo uploaded so I will list those from today. Some of the books include multiple topics and you can read them for each topic. In half hour slots, I was able to meet with four during the time they were open. It’s an outdoor garden and I ‘enjoyed’ the full experience of a Danish spring complete
with pouring rain and wind, but we had umbrellas and blankets to shield us. The premise is to get to know people in an effort to understand and minimize the hypothetical distance many social constructs can create as well as understanding people’s experiences as separate from the individual.

All but one of these topics was available in English. Jeg taler en lille dansk from what I can put together from over 300 days of studying Danish in the past year because I’m into languages and immersion and love how much I can read and understand when not taken by surprise! Anyhow, this experience was phenomenal, the people who were willing to share their stories are brave to be as candid as they are and I super appreciate learning from them and showing them that there are Americans like me who care and want to learn and we don’t all act like self-entitled snobs (granted there’s also a reason for that behavior but another discussion for
another day). I learned a phrase. I’m not a sugar coating everyone gets a trophy kind of person. I would rather lead with kindness. Kindness is not always easy to give or receive because sometimes it’s not something someone wants to hear. The saying is, Svesken på disken. The prune of the table, meaning one who is very direct. Granted you have to read your audience if you want your ideas to be received well, but the gist is being authentic and not sugar coating when it’s not helping. Anyway, side track. I could go down many. Everyone was so kind and appreciative of my knowledge of the library and especially that my first visit was in København (Copenhagen), where it is based. I highly recommend checking it out if it interests you!
In between part 1&2, I stopped for a latte and enjoyed relaxing for a bit before heading to part 2, Trivoli Gardens—gardens and an amusement park. I wasn’t feeling most of the spinny rides but rode the 3 coasters a total of 6 times and thoroughly enjoyed that part. The rides here are longgg. Except my favorite rollercoaster, the Dæmon. Loops and corkscrews and Gs and
so fun. The gardens blooming with tulips were beautiful. It was an enjoyable day. The weather wasn’t great but stopped raining so the park wasn’t busy and lines weren’t long. It was great. We totally fell for the falling water-that stopped as soon as we went under and was silliest photo op. We just wanted to make the super old wooden coaster one more time, but we didn’t quite make it. It is one of the few in the world that still has a break man on board. It was a really neat place to visit and inspiration for Walt Disney.
Officially toast and early morning to navigate to Mälmo. Trying to take adventure of the opportunities that present themselves.
Tak for reading!
