April 4: We got up at our usual time. Jim and I went on a one mile walk before breakfast. I made a list of building materials that I needed and picked up Lewis to go to Kingman after breakfast. It was a busy day. Fueled up the truck, went to the Wells Fargo bank, then to Walmart and Home Depot for lumber. We met up with Jim's friends, Merle and Jean at Rutherford Restaurant for a late lunch (2:30 pm). Merle was driving his new car. A1951 Ford Fairlane. When we were done we came back to Dolan Springs, and sat outside until 8:30 pm then went to bed. April 5: We were up at 6 am to do a photo shoot of abandoned boats on the desert. Then I organized to build a shelter ... read more

April 1: April fools day. I considered telling Jan that a tarantula was crawling up my arm when I first woke up, but then I decided that was NOT a good idea! We went out for breakfast at the Canyon Cafe. Then Jan went to the art show. Jan had a good day. She sold a number of postcards and three 8x12 prints to visitors from the state of Wyoming. Jim and I went to visit Lewis. Lewis is feeling quite a bit better but not at his best yet. Jim took us out for Fish Friday at the Canyon Cafe. It was good. We met a prospector from Idaho at the restaurant. He showed us some gold. Went home and sat outside until well after dark. The stars hung in the sky like jewels. Went ... read more

Another month has rolled on. Got up at 7:30 am. Had a restless sleep but I felt great. I finished the adobe walls and built a bed extension for Jim. We headed off to Kingman after Jan set up for the Art Show at the Chamber of Commerce in Dolan Springs. We went to pick up Jim at the Ring residence and he took us out to the Rutherford Restaurant. We had pot roast, all you can eat. It was delecious and filling. We then went to the revival. It was great too. There was not a lot of people. Jim knew everyone there. There was a bonfire and then a gorgeous sunset. We headed home after the sermon. We got home at 10:00 am. That is our latest for staying up in a week. PARTY ... read more

It was a chilly night in the desert 28 F (-2 C). I had a muffin for breakfast and Jan had mini wheat cereal. I was up on the roof at nine am putting tin on. I was all done by 11 am. You could say a lion on a hot tin roof since I am a bit big for a cat. We went to visit our friend Lewis who has been quite ill with what he suspects is food poisoning. Jan made him toast and tea. He gave us a big water tank for water at our place and gave Jan a keyboard (piano). We went across the street from his place to meet his neighbors who come from Montana state. Then we went into town to hook up to WiFi and go to Family ... read more

Had another good sleep., but was awake at 6:00 am, laid in bed until 7:00 am. Isn’t that what holidays are all about? We had instant decaf in real mugs, then eggs and hash browns for the ‘hard working man’. Actually I did work hard. I cut rafters for the adobe roof and then nailed them into place. I also screwed down the sheathing. Tomorrow I will install the tin on the roof if it’s not windy. The weather today was quite nice. It was in the low 70’s (20C). But a friend of ours, Jim from New York who is currently here in Arizona also, called saying that it snowed in Kingman 35 miles (55 km) south of us this morning. Later in the afternoon we went for cherry pie at Slim and Martha’s place. ... read more

Dust Storm Day We went to bed at 9:00 pm last night, and had a cozy restful sleep in the tiny adobe. The solar lights were completely dead and so we had no lights except for a flaslight. Was awake at 5:30 am to the cooing of Gamble Quail and a donkey baying a couple of streets over. Had sausage and eggs and toast for breakfast and coffee. COFFEE WAS INTERESTING . We had no coffee mugs… no decafe coffee … except for coffee maker pouches. Well, they always say to improvise, so… decided to boil a pouch of that in a pot of water.. That leaked out so had to strain it. Then… we drank it out of water bottles. Mid morning we headed to Kingman to Walmart and Home depot. We bought 2 mugs ... read more

We Made It! We were up before the break of dawn after a good sleep. We had a healthy breakfast of bacon and eggs at the Ramada Inn, and headed out at 7:15 am. We drove down I-15 through the northwest corner of Arizona into Nevada. We stopped at Virgin River Casino for 16 ounce ham steak and eggs breakfast. We were not hungry but we had 'take out' , speculating on Easter ham dinner for tonight. The clocks in Nevada are on Pacific DST. We spent four dollars on the penny slot machines, and our playing was short lived. We were on the road again at 8:45 am. I missed an exit turn in Las Vegas so we took a mini tour as we sorted our way back out. I fueled up in Boulder City, ... read more

Well all you cats... I started the day by saddling up the pony to ride. Ooops! Not true, but now that I have your attention, we started the day with a wholesome breakfast at the Driftwood Inn after getting up at 6:00 am. Susan, the chef, prepared scrambled eggs as per our request. Then we went for a walk down by the falls again, in the brisk morning air. I call -7C or (20 F) brisk. We were back on the road by 7:45 am and witnessed beautiful frost on the trees and shrubs until the sun finally burned it off. We reached our half way mark to Arizona as planned today, covering a drive from Taber Alberta, through Montana and on into Idaho. We ate breakfast in the motel room and were on the road by 7:00 in the morning. After scraping snow and ice off the windshield we headed back out on Veteran's Highway to the USA border at Sweetgrass Montana. I fueled up in Shelby Montana and activated a phone with Verizon. We stopped in Helena Montana for lunch, making ourselves beef on a bun. A few stretching stops later found us in Dubois Idaho, at the Dubois Cafe, a quaint little restaurant, where we stopped for a salad, and also fueled up the truck. We left about 15 minutes late. It snowed all day but the roads were wet and not bad driving for the most part. There was light fog until dusk, with occasional light rain or snow. Snain as some call it. We saw one herd of about 20 deer in woods earlier on and then as it was getting darker Santa's 9 white tail deer crossed the highway a short but safe distance ahead of us. As we neared Taber Alberta, we met with a brief snow showers and rain. We arrived at Heritage Inn for the night at 10:15 pm.After unwinding a bit, went to sleep around midnight. Here it is Good Friday morning. I smell coffee brewing in our room. Will have some breakfast and then head south to the USA border .Nothing else exciting ... read more
